The Hawai‘i Nature Study series provides a bridge between the naturalist tradition of observation and the study of nature for personal enjoyment and modern scientific methods that aim for a systematic gathering of knowledge. Insects provides a series of investigations that can be done on the school campus. It looks at the insects found in Hawai‘i and uses inquiry methods to guide students in their study of the natural environment. The "student text" is a blank notebook in which students record their observations and data.
