The Hawai‘i Nature Study series provides a bridge between the naturalist tradition of observation and the study of nature for personal enjoyment and modern scientific methods that aim for a systematic gathering of knowledge. Plants provides a series of investigations that can be done on the school campus, focusing on the plants found in Hawai‘i and using inquiry methods to guide students in their study of the natural environment. The "student text" is a blank notebook in which students record their observations and data.
